My First Snow

The white stuff came down in Boston for the first time in my life this morning. It was in the sixties and sunny 48 hours ago and now it is in the twenties and snowing. An introduction to New England and a preview of Ann Arbor, my parents tell me.

My teeth have finally begun to let up, so I can refocus my attention on finding my hands and feet. I now grab at near anything and place that anything in my mouth...and sometimes bite down. A fun new way to get to know the world around me and the things in it.

Last night, we tried a new routine in the Goldstein household. Mommy called it "Ferber-ization." Daddy called it "hell." She said she wants me to learn to fall asleep on my own (and not only on her chest), but I think she just wants to be able to get the laundry done while I sleep. For those not yet in the know, Dr. Ferber is a Children's Hospital Boston pediatrician and sleep expert who wrote the parents guide to childhood sleep disorders -- and recommends sleep adjustment with what has been called the "cry it out" method. It can be pretty bad in practice, according to many in our Mommy-Baby group, although Ferber himself calls the practice fairly "tame." Either way, the night went surprisingly well, with Daddy's encouragement and lessons in sleep deprivation. Today is a new day.

And with that new day came snow! So we are off to Doyle's (an infamous Irish Pub in Jamaica Plain, known well to Boston-area politicians and mobsters for decades) for breakfast and a nap. Daddy says the Black and Tan with corned beef hash is an excellent Monday morning starter! Can't wait. Meanwhile, a happy birthday to Uncle Jeremy and Grandma Jo. Wish we were there to celebrate with you... Hugs and kisses to all.
